You scream silently, your hands covering your mouth, and yet, it still turns. Still giddy from its latest prize, it clambered in your direction.
You take a step back, further and further. Soon, those steps turn into sprints.
The creature follows behind, quickly crawling, clawing at your ankles, reaching for you. You weren’t prepared to be a prize, let alone, die without recognition. You trip on your boot lace, your head bouncing off the pavement.
As the monster approached, you could see its hungry eyes, but to your horror, your vision was slowly fading to black…
…You wake up, limbs spread wide, but not torn. Your head hurt, but it wasn’t crushed.
You are in the middle of the forest, the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a circle of stones, each as equal as the next.
Sitting up, you felt dizzy, your eyes slowly adjusted to your surroundings. Tall, evergreen pines everywhere, under the canopy of pine needles, you could barely see the sun.
Far away, you could hear cars driving by. Maybe a road.
You begin to walk towards the noises, hiking past the trees until you reach a clearing. There was no sign of the monster, no strange noises, no clicking. Everything was quiet except the cars. As you walk closer to the road, you wonder whether you should look around.
